The grand opening of the department took place with the participation of the Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov and the Governor of the Arkhangelsk region Alexander Tsybulsky.

On October 26-28, a regular meeting of the Working Group on Sustainable Development of the Arctic Council was held, the main activity of which is to implement project initiatives aimed at obtaining practical knowledge and contributing to improving the capabilities of indigenous peoples and Arctic communities to respond to challenges in the Arctic.

In the competition organized by the Ministry of Economic Development, Industry and Science of the Arkhangelsk Region, four of the nine winning projects are projects of the Northern (Arctic) Federal University.
